Hoa, a young woman in the remote highlands of Dien Bien province in Northwest Vietnam, longs to go to university but her parents are unable to pay for her. However,Â after her father joins an agroforestry development program led by the World Agroforestry Centre (ICRAF), the results are lucrative enough that Hoa is able to realize her dream.
The Â first phase of the Agroforestry for Livelihoods of Smallholder Farmers in Northwest Viet Nam project ran for five years until 2016. The second phase began in March 2017. The project is supported by the Australian Centre for International Agricultural Research and the CGIAR Research Program on Forests, Trees and Agroforestry (FTA).
